Film-based Photography-Change and Current Supplies: An Overview
of Today's Photographic Films
Films could hardly be found any more at the September 2008
photokina. At Kodak there was a small advisory counter; Fujifilm
showed a representative display. At least smaller specialist
companies for black-and-white films such as Fotoimpex (Berlin),
Maco (brand name: Rollei; Hamburg) and the Czech Company Foma were
represented with their own stands. The British company Harman
Technologies, which utilizes the traditional brand name Ilford for
its black-and-white films, refrained from participating at the
trade fair at short notice. Ferrania (Italy), a manufacturer of
color film, was also absent; its Solaris colour negative films may
now, however, also be encountered under the brand name AgfaPhoto
(marketed by Lupus Imaging & Media, Cologne).

The Third Dimension in Books: Technology and History of Stereo
Images
Special techniques must be used for the depiction of
three-dimensional images on books that transcend the limitations
of perspective representation or unfolding (pop-up) or
multi-layered assemblies. Numerous photographic techniques
commonly used for this are described in this article; they are
categorized by technical principle and historical
development.

From Paper Archives into the Digital Void: Burundi-Country
Loses its Visual Cultural Heritage
Institutions of science and art of the western hemisphere are
increasingly becoming interested in contemporary and historic
African photographs. This awareness found its starting point in
archives of local African photographers, but also in European
institutions such as ethnographic museums or missions. The
situation in Burundi (central Africa) shows, however, that it is
not and has not been taken for granted that archives are
established, nor that the ones that currently exist are
maintained. In addition, Burundi is confronted with the new
challenges that the introduction of digital photography has
brought to the archives; the country is taking great pains to
react adequately.
